My goal for 2021 was to do a Spartan Trifecta, my mom was kind enough to buy me entry as a Christmas gift. I have been working out quite a bit lately, but not taking enough care with my diet and I have basically broke even on the scale over the last few months. I am hoping that journaling my progress will help me stick to my guns.
I have had a hard time with being great all week and then not being good all weekend long which results in me some weeks losing a little bit and some weeks gaining a little but not making much in the way of progress.
I am going to try to stick to a 1500-2000 calorie diet and workout 5 days a week, 3 kickboxing classes, and rowing on the other days. Hiking one day on the weekend and resting on the remaining day. Good thing is I am starting in the best shape I have ever been in my life, I have been consistently going to the kickboxing classes which has made a huge difference in my cardio fitness.
One of the things about the Spartan Races is that there are a lot of upper body challenges so losing weight will be key to success. The first race in 54 days is going to be a the 5k with 20 obstacles, the race 81 days is 10k with 25 obstacles, and the last 144 days away is 21k with 30 obstacles. That first one I am pretty confident I can do it in my current state of fitness, I might have to take the burpee penalty on a few of the obstacles but not too many of them. We do a lot of burpees at kickboxing so I have been practicing them. 30 burpees is no joke though so anything I can do to avoid the penalty is welcome.
Tonight I went to kickboxing and I am feeling pretty good with the effort, we did a ton of ab work, everyone doing leg lifts and slowly lowing their legs in unison. After that we did front kicks and I was having a hard time raising my legs to do the kicks, my core is probably the weakest part, with my legs being the strongest. I really do enjoy the structure of the class, we do a warmup stretch, kick and punch some things and wrap up with more stretching.
So today weighed in at 263.4, Friday I weighed in at 260 on the dot, the weekends are really killing the progress, on the weight loss front. Hoping posting will help keep me honest. Today was a good day. Stuck to eggs and toast for breakfast. Lunch was homemade fried rice with a quick spray of oil and organic ground turkey, spinach and jasmine rice. Drank a protein shake in the afternoon to help me get through kickboxing. Dinner was chicken thighs 6 ounces weighed, with 7 ounces of sweet potatoes and some snap peas that I cooked from frozen in the bag. That is the basic template for my food, I find working out a lot easier when I have more carbs in my diet. Tomorrow I am going to work out with my personal trainer, he got a job as a firefighter so he I only have a few more sessions left!
Until tomorrow good luck!
